Such long skirts are usually made by several lineage members. As individual sections are completed they are sewn together. Women’s embroidered skirts can reach six meters in length or even longer. They are worn on ceremonial occasions, especially at funerals, to celebrate the life of a deceased community member and form part of the grave goods for deceased members of the lineage.
