Description

metal, wood, base

The Rotse (Barotse, Lozi) live in Barotseland on the upper Zambezi in what is now western Zambia and were, for a long time, under the cultural influence of the Chokwe, Lunda and Luena. This dagger is one of the few surviving examples of traditional Rotse weapons. It features a finely forged steel blade with a carved wooden handle, as well as a characteristic X-shaped wooden scabbard with typical carved decorations and cut-outs through which the blade remains visible.
