Description

wood, brown patina, remains of polychrome paint, elongated thin extremities, elaborate coiffure, min. dam., missing parts (base), cracks, traces of abrasion, base;
presumably a magical figure “mvunzi”, who protects humans against certain evil spirits. The main fortuneteller usually possesses such “mvunzi”, who employs them in cases of sickness, for theft or for the hunt.


The object Crouching figure “mvunzi” with the object ID 3036803 was part of the auction 77th tribal art auction on June 28, 2014. The object with the lot number 458 achieved a sales price of EUR 7,000 with an asking price of EUR 4,000.
