Description

tortoise shell, back opening closed with Sarcocaulon resin and plant fibres, partly coated with bead netting, strings of white miniature glass beads attached, soft piece of leather with remains of pigments inside.
The “buchu” box was permanent part of women clothing. It served for keeping “buchu”, an aromatic powder made from the “buchu” leaves which was used for regularly rubbing the body and the face.

The object Container for “buchu” with the object ID 3042757 was last part of the auction 87th Tribal Art Auction at November 11, 2017 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 506 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,400.
