Both figures show such great stylistic similarities in physiognomy and physique that one can assume with great certainty that they come from one hand. Both figures are early commissioned works !

The Askari figure is characterised by a strictly military posture and a serious, concentrated gaze from painted eyes. She wears a sword and bulky cartridge pouches on her belt.

Askaris were local soldiers who fought on the European side in the former colonies and were instrumental in the conquest of the colonies.
