Description

wood, pigment,

This form of club, mistakenly called “lotus club”, in fact has its head modelled on a type of river fish named “gugu” or “tivitivi”. Such clubs are considered to come from the interior of Viti Levu and to have been a special club for use in dances rather than combat. For a club of the same type see Hooper, 2016, ill. 238.

The object Club “gugu” with the object ID 3043852 was last part of the auction 89th Tribal Art Auction at July 7, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 50 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,500.
