Description

wood, painted in white and black, bull horns, cord, plant fibre, open mouth with visible teeth, green resp. orange glass eyes, fabric at the back, min. dam., cracks, slight traces of abrasion, base;
“dugn’be” embodies a cattle raised within the village; it was worn by young men called “cabaro” before their initiation. Aside there are three more types of buffalo masks: “gn’opara” - a cow raised in the bush, “essenie” - the wild bull and “iare” - a zebu bull.


The object Buffalo mask “dugn’be” with the object ID 3035738 was part of the auction 75th tribal art auction on November 30, 2013. The object with the lot number 148 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,200 with an asking price of EUR 2,000.
