Hori Joshin was from Niigata prefecture and studied metalworking under famous artists like Oshima Joun (1858-1940) and Kitahara Sanka (1895-1972) following in his grandfather’s footsteps who was also a metalwork artist.

He exhibited his works at the Teiten, Bunten and Nitten exhibitions and also at the 9th Nihon Dento Kogei ten exhibition (Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition) in 1962.

His works are in the collection of the Tsubame City Museum, Niigata prefecture and in the Robert and Mary Levenson Collection at the Columbia Museum of Art, South Carolina U.S.A.


The object Bronze vase with the object ID 3052018 was part of the auction Auction 104 on April 12, 2025. The object with the lot number 110 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,500 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
