Description
plant fibres,
The breastplate, woven from rattan, was gradually blackened over time by the smoke from the hearth in the men’s house.
It was worn during warfare to provide protection against arrows. This is documented in two photographs by Thomas Michel, who acquired the breastplate in 1976 in the village of Eipomek, among the eponymous ethnic group.
