Description

wood, brown patina, metal tags, Kuba-characteristic fine carved ornaments, the lid carved with a stylized human face, remains of pigments inside, min. dam., small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion;
Kuba wood carvers were profoundly influenced by women’s decorated textile production and replicated their design solutions on the surfaces of wooden objects. Such boxes were used for storing a red paste that both men and women commonly applied to the skin as cosmetic.
