Description

wood, brown patina, metal tags, Kuba-characteristic fine carved ornaments, the lid carved with a stylized human face, remains of pigments inside, min. dam., small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion;
Kuba wood carvers were profoundly influenced by women’s decorated textile production and replicated their design solutions on the surfaces of wooden objects. Such boxes were used for storing a red paste that both men and women commonly applied to the skin as cosmetic.


The object Box with lid with the object ID 3041852 was last part of the auction 85th Tribal Art Auction at March 4, 2017 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 374 achieved a sales price of EUR 600.
