Description

wood, rich black patina, in shape of a quadruped with elongated head, slightly dam., minor missing parts, cracks, rep. (breakage at the rim);
bowls of zoomorphic shape are called “kinahu” - meaning “in the shape of a beast”. It is not clearly proven that “kinahu” were used for ceremonial purposes. Most of them served as meat containers or for storing pure salt.


The object Bowl “kinahu”, around 1900 with the object ID 3040851 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 6 achieved a sales price of EUR 700 with an asking price of EUR 450.
