Description
wood, encrusted red patina, showing the body of a pregnant woman, scarification marks around the accentuated navel, rep. (back), traces of abrasion;
accessory to a “gelede” masquerade costume. “Gelede” mask dancers are always young men, even if they have to play the part of women. The sexes are differentiated by costumes and dance steps.
