These helmet masks are related to the education and circumcision
of young girls who are supervised by the “sande” or “bundu” society.

The mask embodies the protective spirit of the girls and represents “sande” at all important occasions, from funeral ceremonies of important members of the society to important visits or the investiture of chiefs.
