Description

The shaft of this axe is extremely skilfully carved with intricate designs. It is adorned with three figures and two anthropomorphic heads. The iron blade is of European origin and was acquired in the trade (illegible engraving “Mo…2”).
These weapons were used for close, hand-to-hand fighting, in which Maori warriors became adept.


The object Battle axe “patiti” with the object ID 3050885 was part of the auction 102nd Auction on April 13, 2024. The object with the lot number 312 achieved a sales price of EUR 5,000 with an asking price of EUR 2,500.
