Description

a) wooden shaft, l: 54,5 cm, mortised axe blade, l: 28,5 cm, of iron, decorated with fine engravings which can be found on the wooden axe head as well, slightly dam., crack, traces of corrosion; additonal: throwing club, Sudan, l: 73 cm, wood, brown patina, min. dam., rep.;
in northern Africa the use of the throwing club is documented since neolithic times (from about 6000 B.C.); it was mainly used for hunting birds.
