Description

heavy wood, pierced eyes, the face of an ancestor spirit indicated on the forehead, upper surface flattened and provided with recess for mortizing, traces of insect caused damage and weathering, cracks, base;
possibly ornamental carving from the door framing of a longhouse and as such depicting “aso”, a mixture between dog and dragon, who had protective function like the “singa” heads of the Batak.
