This beautiful mask is particularly impressive because of its elaborate hairstyle in the form of a high cap, which is covered in dense rows of looped raffia fibres.

It could be the embodiment of a female diviner “nganga ngombo”.


The object Anthropomorphic mask “mbuya” with the object ID 3048197 was part of the auction 97th Auction on November 6, 2021. The object with the lot number 340 achieved a sales price of EUR 3,500 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
