Description

wood, black and red paint,

The Eket are a subgroup of the Ibibio. With them, as well as with other Ibibio groups such as the Anang, they share stylistic features and various male societies (“ekpo”, “idiong” and “ekong”).

Both, the Eket and the Ibibio produce masks which are framed by broad disc-shaped flattened rims. And both groups distinguish between beautiful, brightly coloured (“mfon ekpo”) masks and dark, less attractive ones (“idiok ekpo”).
