These masks were mostly attributed to the Bamana in Mali. Patrick Girard did extensive research in the 1990s about these masks. According to this, they come from a small group of Senufo peoples living around Tingrela, in the border region of Ivory Coast and Mali. According to Girard they are called “bangoro go” / “gbaangorongo” and are worn horizontally on the head (cf. AHDRC 0130911).
The object Anthropomorphic mask / headdress with the object ID 3050055 was last part of the auction 101st Auction at November 11, 2023 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 176 achieved a sales price of EUR 800.
