“Kpan” masks are part of the “goli” masquerade, originally performed at funerals of important personalities and in times of danger. More recently, they have also been used purely for entertainment.
Masks “kpan” (= “the senior woman”) appear as the last pair of masks towards the end of the “goli” festival. They embody the wife(wives) of “goli glin” (= “the senior man”).
The object Anthropomorphic face mask “kpan” with the object ID 3049231 was part of the auction Online Auction on September 27, 2023. The object with the lot number 194 achieved a sales price of EUR 600 with an asking price of EUR 450.
