This mask can be assigned to the “je” society. The mask mediates as an anthropo-zoomorphic hybrid between the village community and the supernatural forces “yu”, which can be both harmful and benevolent.
Especially a case of death requests the performance of the mask “tu bodu”. By means of their dance, they restore the social equilibrium of the community and accompany the deceased into the ancestral realm.
The object Anthropomorphic face mask with the object ID 3044746 was part of the auction 90.I Tribal Art and 90.II Contemporary Native American Art on November 17, 2018. The object with the lot number 165 achieved a sales price of EUR 12,000 with an asking price of EUR 8,000.
