Description

wood, encrusted dark brown patina, red paint in some areas, semi-circular pierced eyes with raised rim, rectangular cutouts below, scarifications on the temples, drilled holes around the rim, slightly dam., missing parts backside at the rim, traces of insect caused damage (head), abrasion of paint, base;
the Ibibio dispose of a variety of mask types, which especially perform at the masquerades of the “ekpo” society. The Ibibio have been influenced in their art by neighbouring groups, especially from the Igbo, but also from the Cross River peoples.
