bone, blackish patina, eyes with shell inlay, drilled hole for suspension, traces of old age, base;
around 1900, made for the trade.
To the Maori “hei tiki” represented outstanding pieces of jewellery. Each had its own name and embodied the “mana” (vitality) of its owner.The amulet represents “tiki”, the creator of man.


The object Anthropomorphic amulet “hei tiki” with the object ID 3040066 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 37 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,000 with an asking price of EUR 800.
