Description

wood, greyish brown patina, encrusted in some areas, reduced to minimal abstract forms: a small vaulted head with forehead crest, completed by curved horns and a long snout, incised scarifications, slightly dam., minor missing parts, cracks;
belonging to the male “mangam” association, the role of which is to enhance agricultural success through joint endeavors. The dance crests used at seasonal ceremonies, take the form of a bush cow or antelope, whose power is ritually brought into human service.


The object Antelope or bush cow mask with the object ID 3032511 was last part of the auction 68th tribal art auction at March 3, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 373 achieved a sales price of EUR 3,500.
