Early and unusual example with four horns and two additional face halves flanking the actual face. The only comparable work with four horns was collected in 1931 during the Dakar-Djibouti expedition and is in the collection of the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Paris (AHDRC 0083507).

“Walu” masks were worn during “dama” funeral ceremonies, which Griaule interpreted as a method of restoring order and peace after the disturbances caused by death.


The object Antelope mask “walu” with the object ID 3052240 was part of the auction Auction 105 on November 15, 2025. The object with the lot number 240 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,600 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
