Description

wood, red and black paint, white pigment, incised triangular patterns and grooved decor, symmetrically designed, curved pair of horns connected by crossbar, slightly dam., minor missing parts, abrasion of paint, cracks;
the Marka-Dafing live in the north central Burkina Faso. They migrated into the area from the north, bringing Mande-style carving with them, adding to their masks the red, white and black graphic patterns that are so typical of the many peoples of Burkina Faso.


The object Antelope mask “kou” with the object ID 3041221 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 55 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,600 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
