Description

wood, softly luminous brown patina, metal tag eyes, horn tips with tufts of animal hair, incised ornaments, drilled holes at the base for attachment to wickerwork bonnet, slightly dam., minor missing parts, rep. (antelope horn, base), abrasion of paint;
combining aardvark and roan antelope. The aardvark is given reverence by Bamana farmers because of its ability to break up the hard soils of the often sun baked Sahel region at planting season.
