The carved antelopes are known as “tijwara” - “the beast who labors” (“tij”: work, “wara”: wild animal). They recall a fabulous being, half man, half animal, who in legendary past taught man how to cultivate the earth.


The object Antelope dance crest “tijwara” with the object ID 3044098 was last part of the auction 89th Tribal Art Auction at July 7, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 153 achieved a sales price of EUR 4,000.
