Haselberger, who qualified to become a professor of Art History at the Vienna Technical University in 1950, made a significant contribution to the establishment of art anthropology through research, teaching, and publications. Her interest was in the West Africa region. She taught art anthropology in the Department of Ethnology at the University of Vienna. She collected many West African objects in the field between 1959-1960, several in the Museum für Völkerkunde in Vienna, and in the RMCA, Tervuren.

This anklets were worn by young women until the 1920s. The pieces were fastened around the ankles by blacksmiths. The women had to swing their legs outwards as they walked to avoid tripping. They were only removed to be replaced by even larger ones indicating greater prestige.
