Nancy Bird Walton was the youngest Australian woman to gain a pilot’s licence. She was seventeen at the time and the year was 1933. She became a pioneering Australian aviator, and was the founder and patron of the Australian Women Pilots’ Association.

wood, brown patina, white pigment, carved with the stylized figure of an ancestor spirit and cross-shaped emblem, the raised contours accentuated with brown paint, unusual form, slightly dam., small traces of insect caused damage (backside), crack (at the bottom)
