Throughout Nias such wooden images were produced as receptacles for ancestor spirits.

The present figure wears a high rising crown, which resembles a fern leaf and a necklace “nifato-fato” - both replicas of traditional jewelry, such as the aristocracy of the Nias usually wore.


The object Ancestor figure “adu zatua” with the object ID 3045846 was part of the auction 92nd Tribal Art Auction on June 29, 2019. The object with the lot number 1 achieved a sales price of EUR 5,000 with an asking price of EUR 4,000.
