Auld (1926-2000) was a member of the postwar generation of innovative potters who came to prominence in the 1960s. He studied at the Ife University in Nigeria, 1970-1972. Here he discovered African art for himself and became one of the most renowned collectors of Yoruba Tribal Art. Many of his objects are published in the Catalogue “African Sculpture from Private Collections in London”, 19 October - 8 November 1979 and in the 1995 Exhibition “Africa, The Art of a Continent” at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
